mentees at BBC Cymru listening to a talk

What to expect as a mentee

As a participant in the Equal Power Equal Voice programme, you will be paired with a dedicated mentor whose experience, expertise, and professional background are carefully matched to support your personal goals and development. This tailored mentoring relationship provides guidance, advice, and practical support throughout your journey.

In addition to one-to-one mentoring, you will be part of a cohort hosted by one of four partner organisations.  Each organisation brings its own area of expertise and focus. When placing mentees into a cohort, we consider your preference of partner organisation, as well as your identity, lived experience, and personal goals.

The four partner organisations are:

  • Disability Wales
  • Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Team (EYST)
  • Stonewall Cymru
  • Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales

Each cohort is led by a dedicated Programme Co-ordinator who will guide and support you throughout the programme.  The wider programme is overseen by the Programmes Manager based at WEN Wales.

Within Your Cohort

  • You will be welcomed into the programme with an introductory session designed to help you settle in and get to know your cohort
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in small group networking sessions, providing space to build relationships and share experiences in a more focused setting
  • Cohorts also encourage peer networking, giving you the chance to share your own knowledge, skills, and lived experience with others.

Across the programme

  • You will have the opportunity to connect with mentees from all four partner organisations through cross-cohort events, including the programme launch, training sessions, and in-person gatherings
  • You will have opportunities to build meaningful peer support networks and collaborate with people from a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and experiences.

This structure is designed to ensure you benefit both from the focused support of your host organisation and the richness of learning and connection across the whole programme.
